Do unto others....

As you all know, I tend to "preach" a bit on this blog about my belief in karma and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. It's kind of been my mantra for the last 10 years, after I realized I had to grow up and learn how to treat others. I knew that would be part of my survival when I first started out in the military. Still to this day, I follow that thought and try everyday to instill that into my own family.

Well, needless to say, not all of my family members are able to grasp this, even my own husband. He tends to love to act before thinking and doesn't really take advice to heart like he should. Even at the age of 28, he's still slowly growing and now that I have my own little boy, I see how that myth of boys taking longer to develop and grow may be true. This is a story of how Hubby learned a valuable lesson.

Sunday, we decided to take a "Day-cation" to our local Six Flags and we took my sister along. My father had given us 4 free tickets that he got for volunteering at an event. We ended up having a great day. The weather that day was in resemblance to a beautiful Indian summer. My husband and my sister had some bonding time while waiting in line on rides and we even splurged by letting my sister play games, get henna tattoos, and eat all the junk food she wanted....all on our dime. Since we got the tickets for free, we knew that we could really "live it up" that day and make it memorable. By the time we had been there for a bit, everyone, including our sonny boy, was feeling full and tired, but we wanted to stay for the great Halloween show. Little did I know, my sister was deathly afraid of all the ghouls and goblins that would be walking around after the show and insisted that we leave before their "awakening." We convinced her to at least watch the show, but seeing this 13 year old turn into a 5 year old was just hilarious to Hubby and I.

During the middle of the show, I decided to let us go. Hubby was visibly getting upset with little sis and her transformation into a kindergartner, and I knew I needed to get everyone out of there before disaster struck. We stopped to get me my traditional funnel cake(I always get one right before we leave this park) and made our way to the car. Hubby was already starting up; yelling at little sis for not paying attention to the people walking in front of us and pushing Sonny Boy's stroller into way too many people. I warned him to calm down and not ruin the great day, but I also knew that this wasn't going to end so quickly.

Before we left the park, I decided to run up to someone at the admissions booth and give them the extra ticket we had, saving this stranger the 46 dollars they would have spent on a ticket. Good karma, here we come! Unfortunately, Hubby's ghoulish side was popping out and there was nothing I could do by now. We ended up looking for our car for 20 minutes, since Hubby decided not to listen to his wife when I told him exactly where it was located. Then, it happened: we got to the car and realized that the person that parked behind us, had seriously crashed into our car and caused damage to the bumper. I tried to calm Hubby down by telling him that we can't even see damage yet(the other car was literally parked right on our bumper and we couldn't even get into our trunk). I ran into the car to look for a pen and paper to write a note to the other driver, scolding them for causing damage to another person's car and warning them about doing unto others. I figured if I could accomplish this before Hubby decided to do what he was going to do, I could get him into the car and not have his son and sister-in-law bear witness to how childish this man can be.

I have been with him for 8 years and I know what he is capable of when he gets extremely angry. It is part of him that I really do not like and have been trying to help him tame since we found out that we were having our little one. That day showed me how long we still have to go. The note didn't work. He still did was he was thinking( and I was thinking) he was going to do. I was so embarrassed and quite upset with him. As soon as he got into the car, I told him that we were having such a great day, produced great karma by giving away that ticket and that he just messed it up. I said "mark my words, now that you did that to someone else's car, something is going to happen to this one. It may even break down on our way home." He scoffed and went on his way. The car didn't break down that day....but the events that unfolded on Monday would definitely teach my Husband that your actions, good or bad, do effect you and the universe....

To be continued....

Oh, I can't believe you left me hanging with a cliff-hanger (shades of JMO)! I think you & I were sisters in another life, cause I truly believe in Karma. Can't wait to hear "the rest of the story".

I can only imagine what happened on Monday....but did you end up saying "I told you so!...." even if that little voice in your head told you not to say it? Sometimes I know that I should just leave it alone and let the lesson stand on it's own, but I still want to say it- just once!!! (He he) But you lead by example- and just as it will leave a good trait in your son to always take the higher road, your husband will eventually get it, too. (It's just hard to teach an old dog new tricks, quite literally, I have found.)

Dhunny, please note my username. It's the only one you recognize, right?
Jeez, are you kidding me? A cliffhanger? Who'd have thought that? Happilly,I just read the first installment and see there's a 2nd and 3rd installment already posted.
RE: funnel cakes. When you said you bought one, Amiyrah, I thought of Grocery Boy and cracked up! Years ago, we all went to an amusement park and GB bought one ENTIRE funnel cake and ate the whole thing by himself. Yep,when he got home... Well, let's just say there is good and bad karma, but there's also INSTANT karma...if you know what I mean.
